Currently August

I can't believe it is already August! August marks the end of my summer and the start of a new school year! Linking up with Farley at Oh Boy Fourth Grade for Currently.

Listening: We've been catching up with one of our favorite tv shows, Hell on Wheels. We got a bit behind with season 3. Lucky for us they had a marathon today and we were able to catch up before the season 4 premiere. Yes, we were glued to the couch all day. I'm not embarrassed to admit that. My sister gave me a hard time when she called and I told her I couldn't talk today because we were catching up on our show. I've earned it, I can be lazy for a day. :)

Loving: Goodbye commute! For the past 7 years I have been commuting to work and it was getting really old. There were times I was stuck in traffic for 2 hours and that was one way. It usually took anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half one way. Can you believe I spent at least 10 hours a week sitting in my car. Can we say waste of time?!?! I will now be embarking on a new adventure- I have a new teaching position and will be close to home! I have been dreaming of this for 7 years! Did someone say "side streets"? The icing on the cake it that I will continue to teach 5th grade. This girl is smiling big!

Thinking: This My husband is pretty amazing. On Friday he helped me pack up and move out of my old classroom.  My room was on the 2nd floor and I should mention the school doesn't have an elevator (which I find odd...what if someone had a broken leg?). He had to carry all my boxes down the stairs in hot and humid weather. It doesn't stop there...Monday he will be helping me move into my new classroom. Luckily my new classroom is floor level and close to the parking lot. A bit stressed...I have so much to do in such a short amount of time.

Wanting: The weather has been so strange lately. Not a fan. I'm ready for some nice crisp fall air.

Needing: I have no excuses. I've had plenty of time this summer to plan, but always found something else to do. I did read quite a few books and some of those were for professional development. I really need to get on the ball. Maybe once I am moved into my room I will be able to focus on some planning.

1st Day: First day with the kids is in 11 days!! Oh my goodness!

  1. WOW...I totally get you on your wanting. I don't understand this muggy weather we have been having lately. It is super weird. Dry and hot is one thing, but man...HUMID and hot reminds me of Taiwan, Florida, and Brazil. Not sure if Cali is jumping on the bandwagon or what! Yes, I also need more time. It's so scary...honestly. And I start on the same day as you! On the 8th is when I have my new teacher training with the district and 13th is when he kids start. Monday & Tuesday I have my Singapore Math training. I will keep you updated, friend!

  2. Oh, I forgot to mention. I never understood buildings without elevators either. My apt was just like that, remember??? I always wondered how they accommodated to handicapped people. I guess people that can't climb stairs or so just couldn't live there. weird huh?

    1. Ya, I would think they would be out of code. I thought all buildings needed to be handicap accessible. When my knee was out it was awful having to walk up and down those stairs.

  3. Congrats on the shorter commute! I cannot imagine being stuck in 2-hour-long traffic...how horrible! I am with you on wanting it to be fall...I live in the south, and summer usually lasts until October. Even though you have so much to do with moving in your new classroom and planning (I am in the same boat, trust me!), please enjoy the rest of your summer!

    1. Thanks Joy! I'm SO excited! Teaching closer to home has been a dream of mine. I usually love summer, but I like the dry heat and lately we've had such hot and humid weather. Us Californians aren't used to it and it makes me wonder how you all can deal with it in the south! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Congratulations on your new job! I had a 2 hour commute a couple of years ago, and it was awful (from OC to SD!)! And it's so funny that you mention wanting fall...I wrote about the same thing in my Currently post! Have a great start to the new year! :)

    1. Thank you Heidi! Oh my goodness, I know that drive from OC to SD and it is not fun especially during rush hour...which seems to be pretty much all day! Yes! I don't know about you, but this humid weather is not my cup of tea.
